Peter and I tried to find somewhere new to go today and remembered that we often passed by this cafe coming and going to Pannierstr. or the canal. It is conveniently located if you are by bike because it's directly along the canal in one of the more beautiful parts of Kreuzberg. Although it was a rainy, dreary day, the terrace still looked appealing even without chairs and tables. The facade is beautiful and the inside decor captures the atmosphere nicely: classy, but still Berlin. Old wooden table, big couches, but also clean and orderly, configured more like a restaurant than a cafe. Which it is. A tapas restaurant to be precise. But still with good coffee, your regular cafe fare (home made cake, espresso drinks, teas...). This cafe is kind of a safe place that is very Berlin without being weird or overbearing. A nice place to bring visitors. The bathrooms had a sense of humor a bit out of place with the stoic decor. In a refreshing way. And the hallway leading to the bathrooms was a good places to gather info about events and even find a place to live. Although I saw another one of those annoying "I am looking for my dream apartment please hand it to me on a silver platter" announcements that you find all over Berlin and are never convinced actually work. I should do a project with them... Oh and I shouldn't forget to mention that the place had a piano and a very upscale selection of reading material, including Le Monde and GEO. A nice place to spend an afternoon if you want to concentrate and be undisturbed.
